why?
As a SEPTA rider myself I have had to experience these issues firsthand. One memorable experience was at Jefferson station, when two trains scheduled back to back were canceled and I had to sit in the station for two hours because of it. Taking the Chestnut Hill West line nearly every day and walking home you'll notice yard signs protesting against the cutting of the Chestnut Hill West line. Luckily, I am one of the many people who have an easy second option, but I do know many people who aren't as lucky as me.
Even though many people have second options, thats besides the point. SEPTA removes 100's of thousands of cars from the roads each day. Without SEPTA, traffic in Philly would be unimaginiable.
about the process.
When I got the idea for this project, I really had no idea the amount of time outside of school I'd have to devote to it. Nearly every weekend, I'd hop on the train and go talk to strangers in a train station.
Although it took a lot of time, I am happy that I did it. I learned that I shouldn't expect answers, and in doing so, I learned so much about SEPTA's impact on my city.
As this project comes to a close, I look back at the 22 SEPTA riders who took time out of their days to talk to me, and I am extremely grateful for their vulnerability and willingness to talk to me.
